Artist Chris Hodges exhibits work at All Things Artistic
If one considers the hushed and stoic atmosphere of a traditional art gallery too stuffy, then an exhibit by local artist Chris Hodges might be what you’re looking for.
All Things Artistic is hosting an exhibit by Hodges today, Friday and Saturday at its Broad Street location. The funky, eclectic gallery prides itself in making art more accessible to a wide range of community members and Hodges thinks it’s the perfect place to show his work.
“It looks like a great gallery,” Hodges said. “There are a lot of people who would go there who wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable in a traditional gallery. That just means that more people will be able t o see the work.”
Twenty-eight paintings and drawings by Hodges will be on display at the downtown gallery. The pieces were completed over the past two years, Hodges said, and are grouped in three series including jazz portraits and a portraits of American artist Jackson Pollock.
Hodges is a teacher at Rome High who began his teaching career at Pepperell Middle School in 1989. He has taught at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center in Cedartown and has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions of drawings and paintings over the last 20 years. He holds degrees from Berry College, Bank St. College of Education and Parsons School of Art and Design. His work is on display in collections around the U.S. and Europe.
The exhibit takes place today, Friday and Saturday at All Things Artistic located at 522 Broad St. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A reception takes place at the gallery tonight starting at 8. Admission is free. Hodges will teach a “Basic Beginners Drawing” workshop this fall at All Things Artistic.
